Description

Cut from clear crystal into a neat octagon, this is the part of a recessed downlight you actually see: a faceted rim that picks up the beam below it and scatters small points of light back across the ceiling. The face spans 10cm and the crystal sits low in profile, so it reads as a bright detail rather than a piece of hardware. On its own it is non-electric, and a separate lampholder and retaining ring kit completes it.

We like these in a hallway, where a run of them gives a ceiling something to do beyond plain white discs, and in dressing rooms, dining rooms and sitting rooms where a little sparkle is welcome. They suit rooms that stay dry, so keep them well clear of shower zones. The rim does nothing to the dimming behaviour: if you want to bring the level down, choose dimmable lamps and a matching dimmer, both bought separately. It is one we reach for when a tired plastic bezel is letting the rest of the room down.

The crystal is clear throughout and faceted rather than moulded smooth, and the octagonal outline keeps the edges crisp where a round rim would soften them. Dust gathers in the facets, so an occasional going over with a dry lint-free cloth is all it asks; glass sprays and solvents dull the surface and are best left in the cupboard. It carries a one year warranty. We stock the same idea in round, square and chamfered profiles, and in green, aqua and spectrum as well as clear, along with the completing kits in satin black, aged brass and polished chrome. Lamps are not included.

Does this rim work on its own?

No. It is the crystal rim only and is non-electric. The IL30800 lampholder and retaining ring kit is required to complete the item, and we sell those kits in satin black, aged brass and polished chrome.

What aperture does it suit?

It is made for a 62mm cut-out, the same size used across the rest of the crystal rim range.

How big is the visible rim?

The face measures 100mm across and the crystal stands 10mm high, so very little sits below the ceiling line.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you fit dimmable lamps and a compatible dimmer. Neither the lamps nor a dimmer are supplied.

How should I clean the crystal?

Wipe it with a soft dry cloth to lift dust from the facets. Avoid sprays, solvents and abrasive pads, which will take the shine off clear crystal.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

It is rated for dry indoor rooms only, so it should not be used in the zones around a bath or shower.
