Description

Long and narrow rather than round, this track head lays a tidy band of light along its 540mm body. The LED is integral and fixed in place, drawing 30W and running at 4000K, a cool white that keeps whites looking clean and colours honest. The driver sits inside the body, so there is nothing separate to find room for, and the black finish carries the full length of the housing.

We would fit this where a row of round spots would look fussy: over a kitchen island, along a run of open shelving, or above a long worktop where the light wants to follow the shape of the surface. It does the same job over a desk, a counter or a hung row of pictures in a studio or small gallery, and the cooler light suits places where people are working rather than lounging. Output is fixed rather than dimmable, so we would give it a circuit of its own where the level needs to change around it. Because the head lives on track, it can be moved along as the layout below changes.

It is a mains fitting for dry rooms indoors, and it needs an earth at the supply. Keeping it right is simple: with the power off and the head cool, take the dust off the body and the lens with a dry cloth, and keep solvents and scouring creams away from the black, which marks more readily than a pale finish. It carries a three year warranty. The same head is stocked in white, and both finishes are also made in a warmer white light if this one reads too crisp against timber and brass. As the light source is built in, there is no lamp to buy for it.
