Description

A shallow circle of smoke glass sits in a satin black frame, close up against the ceiling, giving a soft wash of light rather than a bright pool directly underneath. At 48cm across it reads as a generous disc overhead while keeping a slim profile. Three G9 lamp positions are held behind the glass, and the smoke tint takes the edge off them so the fitting glows fairly evenly when lit. We would reach for LED capsules here, which keep the running costs down.

This is the fitting we suggest where a pendant would hang into head height: hallways, landings, a bedroom, or a kitchen with a lower ceiling. The spread suits a room of moderate size, and because it sits tight to the plaster it stays clear of doors and wardrobe fronts. It will dim if you fit dimmable capsules alongside a compatible dimmer, so it can serve as a quiet evening light as well as the main one. Double insulated, it is wired for ordinary household circuits in rooms that stay dry.

The glass carries the colour and the metalwork is finished in a low-sheen satin black, which holds fingerprints far less obviously than a polished black would. It is light in the hand for a fitting of this width. To clean it, switch off at the wall, leave the glass until it is cool to the touch, then wipe with a barely damp cloth and dry it at once; nothing abrasive, and keep sprays away from the lampholders. It carries a one year warranty.
