Description

A slim tubular lamp finished in amber, this one gives a low, honeyed light rather than anything bright or white. It draws 4W and sits at 2100K, the extra warm end of the scale, nearer the glow of an old filament lamp than a modern LED. The E27 screw cap suits standard pendants and lampholders, and it will dim with a compatible dimmer if you want to take the level down further. A suitable dimmer is needed, and one is not supplied with the lamp.

We reach for it where the lamp itself is on show: open pendants over an island, a cluster above a dining table, flexes strung along a shelf, or a bare holder in a hall. Because it puts light out all round, it reads just as well pointing down from a pendant as it does sitting in an upturned holder. It is a mood light more than a working one, so put something brighter nearby if you need to read or chop by it. Snugs, bedrooms, bars and small restaurants take it well, and it suits anyone after atmosphere and a soft amber cast.

The tube is narrow, which keeps it tidy inside small shades and cloches and stops it crowding a compact fitting. The amber tint runs the full length, so it still reads warm when the lamp is off. For cleaning, switch off at the socket, allow it to cool, then draw a dry cloth along the tube and keep damp cloths away from the cap. It carries a three year warranty. Will it work with any dimmer switch?

It is dimmable, but it needs a dimmer rated for LED loads. On an older dimmer built for filament lamps you may see flicker or a limited dimming range.
