Chicago E27 IP65 Round Post Light 12cm Clear - Anthracite

A low anthracite post topped with a clear round diffuser, this one gives a soft ring of light at knee and shin height rather than a narrow downward beam. The body stands 65cm tall, slim enough to sit beside a path without getting in the way, and the head is a neat cylinder of 12cm. Because the diffuser is clear, the lamp inside stays visible and the glow spreads sideways as well as down, which is what makes it useful for marking edges and levels after dark.

We reach for posts like this along a front path, either side of a drive entrance, or set into planting where a taller lantern would look heavy. It suits a garden that needs orientation more than brightness, and it works well repeated at intervals so the light reads as a rhythm rather than a single pool. It is rated for open outdoor positions, so rain and wind are no obstacle. It takes an E27 lamp and we would choose a warm white GLS in LED form; dimming is possible where both the lamp and the dimmer are suited to it.

The finish is anthracite, a deep grey that sits quietly against brick, render and greenery and hides the marks a garden throws at it. The clear diffuser is the only bright part of the piece. To keep it looking right, wipe the post down when you clean the windows and give the diffuser a rinse to shift dust and pollen before drying it off. It carries a two year warranty. What lamp does it take?

One E27 lamp, with a maximum of 12W. A GLS A60 shape in LED is the sensible choice, and lamps are supplied separately.

How tall is it?

It stands 650mm high with a head diameter of 120mm, so it sits at low border and path height.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you pair a dimmable lamp with a compatible dimmer. A standard non-dimmable LED will not respond.

Will it cope with British weather?

It is sealed for exposed outdoor use and can be left out through rain, frost and wind all year.

How should the clear diffuser be cleaned?

Switch the circuit off first and let things cool, then rinse away grit with clean water and dry with a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive pads and solvent cleaners.

Are matching posts available?

Yes. A square version is offered in the same anthracite, and there are shorter round and square posts, including one in matt white.
