The shade here is a clear glass bowl on a slim stem, the shape of a wine glass turned upside down, held in metalwork finished in antique copper with black. At 25cm across it stays modest, so the glass reads as a shape rather than a mass and the lamp inside is fully on show. The E27 socket suits a decorative LED, and the drop is adjustable across a wide span, so it can hang low over a worktop or pull up closer to the ceiling in a passageway.

We reach for this one over a kitchen island, where a row of them gives an even wash of light without blocking the view across the room. It suits a small round dining table just as well, or a bay window, or a pair either side of a bed where a table lamp would eat into the surface. Dimming is possible with a compatible lamp and a suitable dimmer, both bought separately. With 20W as the ceiling, a globe, teardrop or slim tubular LED all sit happily inside the glass.

The shade is glass and the fittings are metal, so upkeep is simple: wipe the glass with a dry cloth once the lamp has gone cold, and leave polish and creams away from the copper, which is meant to look aged rather than bright. Fingermarks show more on clear glass than on opal, so a quick pass now and then keeps it looking sharp. It carries a two year warranty. The same wine glass shade runs through the range as a flush fitting, in antique copper with opal or smoke glass, and in antique brass, satin nickel, pewter, polished chrome and matt black if copper is not the tone you want. How far down does it hang?

The drop adjusts from 380mm to 1750mm, measured from the ceiling to the bottom of the glass, so it covers everything from a low hallway to a stairwell or a high kitchen ceiling.

Which lamps work best in it?

An E27 LED up to 20W. Because the glass is clear, decorative shapes look best: GLS A60, globe G80 or G95, ST64 teardrop, or the long tubular T185.

Can I put it on a dimmer?

Yes, provided you pair a dimmable LED lamp with a dimmer switch rated for it. Neither the lamp nor the dimmer comes with the pendant.

How wide is the shade?

250mm in diameter, which is small enough to hang two or three in a line along a standard kitchen island.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20, so keep it to dry rooms such as kitchens, dining rooms, bedrooms and hallways.

How do I clean the glass?

Switch off and let the lamp cool, then use a dry microfibre cloth. For stubborn marks, a cloth barely damped with water is enough; avoid solvents near the copper finish.
