Cavo Twisted Cable 5.3mm Dia 1m Drop - Dark Brown

Dark brown braid woven over a twisted two core flex, sold by the metre and supplied as a single continuous run whatever length you order. The twist gives it a soft rope-like line instead of the flat anonymity of moulded PVC, and the braid picks up light rather than bouncing it back, so it reads as a deep, warm brown that settles into shadow. The conductors are 0.75mm, the size most domestic pendants and lamps are wired in, and the cable is VDE approved.

It suits anything where the flex is on show: a pendant hung over a kitchen island, a cluster of bare bulbholders above a dining table, a rewired floor lamp, a bedside light on a hook. Brown sits well against oak, walnut, leather and old brick, and it is quieter than black in a pale room. We keep it on the shelf for customers restoring older lamps, where a bright white flex would look wrong against aged brass. It is for dry rooms indoors, not garden runs or damp bathroom corners.

The braided sleeve is tightly woven over the insulated cores, and the twist holds its shape, so it hangs in a gentle spiral rather than kinking. Dust wipes off with a dry cloth run down the length with the power off; the weave will hold a little grease in a kitchen, so a barely damp cloth and a dry one after keeps it looking fresh. It carries a one year warranty. Braided flex in this range is also stocked in black, white, red, blue, purple and lime green, and there are plain clear and black options if you would rather the cable disappeared.

How is the cable supplied if I order several metres?

As one unbroken length. Order five and you receive a continuous 5m run rather than five separate 1m pieces, so there is nothing to join.

How thick is the finished cable?

The braided twisted flex measures 5.3mm across, which passes comfortably through most standard cord grips and lampholder entries.

What size are the conductors?

Two cores at 0.75mm, the usual sizing for pendants, table lamps and floor lamps on a domestic supply.

Is it suitable for outdoor or bathroom use?

No. It is rated IP20, so keep it to dry indoor rooms away from splashes and weather.

Will the braid fray if I cut it?

Cut cleanly and the weave stays put; a turn of tape over the cut point before trimming the cores keeps the braid tidy while you work.

Does the colour vary between orders?

The dark brown braid is consistent, though as with any woven cover the depth of shade shifts a little under warm or cool light.
