Cavo Twisted Cable 5.3mm Dia 1m Drop - Blue

This is a fabric flex with a blue braided outer, the two cores twisted around one another rather than run flat, so the finished cable has a soft rope-like line to it. The 0.75mm conductors are a familiar size for domestic lighting work, and the cable is VDE approved. Order the quantity you need and it arrives as a single continuous length, cut rather than coiled in separate pieces.

It is the sort of flex we reach for when the cable is going to be seen: a pendant dropped over a kitchen island, a cluster of bare lampholders in a stairwell, a rewired table lamp where the old cord has gone tired and yellow. The blue reads as a proper colour against white plaster and pale timber, and it looks equally at home trailing down a dark painted wall. It suits anyone building or refreshing a light rather than buying one ready made, and it is priced so that trying a colour costs very little. Keep it to dry indoor rooms; it has no protection against damp, so bathrooms and porches want a different cable.

The braid is woven over the insulated cores and holds its shape well, which is what stops a visible flex looking limp once it is hanging. Dust settles on textile more readily than on smooth PVC, so give the run an occasional brush or a wipe with a dry cloth, always with the circuit dead and the flex cold. Avoid solvents and damp cloths, as both can mark the weave. Can I use it in a bathroom or outdoors?

No. It is rated IP20, which means no protection against water, so keep it to dry interior rooms.

Will the braid fray if I cut it?

Cut ends can loosen. A wrap of tape or heatshrink over the braid before cutting keeps the weave tight and tidy.

Is this the same as the plain braided version?

Not quite. Both are braided with two 0.75mm cores, but here the pair is twisted together for a rope-like look rather than lying side by side.

How should I clean it?

With the power off and the flex cold, brush or wipe it with a dry cloth. Keep water and solvents away from the fabric.
