Description

Black braided flex with a twisted lay, three core, with 0.75mm conductors, ordered by the metre and cut as one continuous run rather than handed over in short pieces. The woven outer sleeve gives it a softer, slightly ropey look next to smooth PVC, and it keeps a loose coil when you let it hang. It is VDE approved. Because it carries a third core, this is the flex to reach for where an earth connection is wanted rather than a two core cable.

We use it for pendant sets and hanging clusters, for reviving a junk shop lamp base, and anywhere a length of visible cord is part of the look instead of something to hide. Black reads quietly against dark shades, matt black ceiling roses and painted brick, and it holds its own in kitchens, workshops and studies where the wiring is on show. It suits anyone confident with a competent electrician on hand, and it is our usual choice for metal fittings.

The braid is tightly woven over the twisted cores, so the finish stays even along the run and the black keeps its depth without the shine of a plastic sheath. A dry cloth run along the length lifts dust from the weave, which catches more than a smooth sleeve does, and it is best kept to dry indoor rooms away from damp and heat. It carries a one year warranty. We stock the braided two core version of the same weave in white, red, blue, purple and lime green, along with plainer black PVC and clear flat cable if you would rather the flex disappeared. Cable only, so lamp holders, roses and grips are chosen separately.
