Cavo Cable 6mm Dia 1m Drop - Red & Black

This is a braided flex with a woven outer in red and black, the two shades running together in a wave stripe so the cord reads as patterned rather than plain. Underneath sits ordinary two core 0.75mm flex, VDE approved. The braid gives the cable a soft, slightly textured feel in the hand rather than the slick surface of a moulded PVC cord, and whatever quantity you order arrives as one continuous length rather than cut into separate pieces.

We reach for a braided cable like this whenever the flex is going to be on show: a bare pendant over a kitchen island, a row of hanging bulbs above a bar or a bench, or an old floor lamp being brought back into use. The red and black sits well with warm filament lamps and with brass or copper fittings, and it leans towards a workshop look without shouting about it. It is also what we use when an existing pendant set needs to be shortened or run longer so the drop lands where you actually want it.

The braid is tightly woven and holds its shape, so the cord hangs cleanly rather than curling, and the pattern is carried in the weave rather than printed onto it. How is the cable supplied if I order several metres?

As one continuous length. Ordering five will bring you a single 5m piece rather than five separate metre lengths, so you can trim to suit.

What is the outside diameter?

Roughly 6mm across the braid, which is typical for a two core 0.75mm flex with a textile outer.

Is the red and black a stripe or two separate cores?

The two colours are woven together into the outer braid as a wave stripe pattern, so the whole cord shows both shades along its length.

Will the braid fray if I cut it?

A clean cut with sharp side cutters keeps it tidy. A short turn of tape at the cut point before you trim helps hold the weave together.

How should I clean it once it is up?

A dry cloth drawn along the cord in one direction lifts dust from the weave. Avoid damp cloths, sprays and any solvent cleaner.

Is it approved for use in the UK?

It is VDE approved two core 0.75mm flex, the same specification widely used for pendant and table lamp cords.
