Description

A slim polished chrome bar, 1.2m from end to end, carries four E27 lampholders spaced evenly along its length. It comes as a frame only, which is the point of it: the shades are yours to choose, whether that is fabric drums, ribbed glass, metal cones or something salvaged. The bar is narrow enough to stay quiet in the room, letting the shades set the character. The drop adjusts across a generous span, so the row can hang low over a table or sit up much closer to the ceiling.

We reach for a linear frame like this over a kitchen island, a long dining table or a run of worktop, where four points of light spread along an axis rather than pooling in one spot. It suits anyone who already has shades in mind, or who wants to change them later without changing the fitting. Because it takes ordinary screw-cap lamps, you are free to pick output and warmth to match the shades you settle on. With suitable lamps and a compatible dimmer it can be dimmed, though neither the lamps nor the dimmer come with it.

The frame is finished in bright polished chrome, which keeps its shine well in a dry indoor room and picks up whatever else is chrome or glass nearby. Fingerprints and cooking film are the only real enemies: wipe the bar with a barely damp cloth and dry it straight away, with the power off and the lamps cool. It carries a one year warranty. We stock the same linear frame in antique gold and satin nickel, and in a three light version, with round pendant and flush ceiling frames in the range for smaller spaces. Shades and lamps are bought separately.

What lamps should I use?

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you fit dimmable lamps and a dimmer switch matched to them. Neither is supplied.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20 and belongs in dry rooms such as kitchens, dining rooms and hallways.
