Description

This is a frame rather than a finished fitting: a shallow circular plate in polished chrome carrying three E27 lampholders, ready for the shades you choose yourself. The plate measures 40cm across and sits tight to the ceiling, so the shades set the character while the metalwork stays quietly in the background. Because the lampholders are the common larger size, the field of shades open to you is wide, from little drums and coolies to glass. Each lamp takes up to 20W, which points firmly at LED.

We reach for this where a ceiling is too low for anything hanging but one small fitting in the middle would look mean: hallways, landings, bedrooms and kitchen-diners all take it well. Light comes from points spread across a wide plate, which reads as a gentler, more even wash than a lone central lamp. It can be dimmed if you pair dimmable lamps with a matching dimmer, neither of which comes with the frame. Keep it to dry rooms; a bathroom or a covered porch calls for something rated for damp.

The finish is a bright polished chrome, buffed up so it catches whatever the shades throw back at it. For cleaning, switch the power off and run a dry microfibre cloth over the plate and the arms; polished chrome holds fingerprints and water spots, so leave the creams and sprays in the cupboard. It carries a one year warranty. We stock the same frame in antique gold and satin nickel, and there is a smaller Carrie frame for a cloakroom or a box room, along with linear and round pendant versions in the range if you have height to play with. Does this come with shades?

No. It is supplied as the frame only, with three E27 lampholders exposed, so you can fit whatever shades suit the room. Small drum, coolie and glass shades with an E27 fitting are all worth looking at.

What size lamps should I use?

Three E27 lamps, each no more than 20W. LED is the sensible choice, and the light output you want will depend partly on how open or dense the shades you fit turn out to be.

How much room does it need on the ceiling?

It is 400mm across and stands 90mm deep, before you add the depth of your shades. Measure your chosen shades and allow for them dropping below the plate.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you use dimmable lamps and a compatible dimmer switch. Neither the lamps nor a dimmer are included.

How do I keep the chrome looking right?

Turn the power off and wipe with a dry, soft cloth. Chrome marks easily with moisture and cleaning products, so avoid polishes, sprays and anything abrasive.

Is there a warranty?

It carries a one year warranty.
