Description

Clear crystal and a warm French gold finish carry this piece: eight candle lamps sit within cut crystal that breaks the light into small bright points across a ceiling. At 74cm across it is a large fitting, generous enough to hold the middle of a room on its own. The crystal is clear and faceted, and the gold plating behind it gives the glass a soft honey cast rather than a cold sparkle. E14 sockets take candle or flame tip lamps, and we would choose LED versions in a warm white for the steadiest look.

Dining rooms suit it best, where the crystal has something below it to reflect. It also works well in a hallway with height to spare, or a main bedroom where the light needs to be soft and even rather than directed. Ambient light is what it gives, so we pair it with table lamps or wall lights when a room needs reading light too. It will dim if you fit dimmable lamps and a compatible dimmer, both bought separately, which is how we would run it over a table in the evening.

The frame is metal, plated in French gold, and the weight of the crystal makes it a substantial fitting to handle. To keep it bright, turn the power off at the wall, let the lamps go cold, then take each crystal in turn with a lint free cloth; skip sprays and polishes, which leave a film on cut glass. It carries a one year warranty. Lamps are not included. The same design is offered in polished chrome, and there are smaller ceiling versions in the range along with matching switched wall lights, so a dining room and hall can share one look.
