Bianco 6 Light E14 Chandelier 61cm - French Gold

Clear Diyas Select crystal is hung against a French gold frame here, and each does a different job: the gold warms the light while the crystal breaks it up into points. Six E14 candle lamps sit within the arrangement, so the glow comes from inside the glass rather than beating down from above. At 61cm across it reads as a full-sized chandelier, wide enough to hold the centre of a room without crowding it.

We would hang this over a dining table, where the crystal has something to reflect and the light lands where people are sitting. It works as well in a hallway or on a stairwell landing, and in a bedroom where you want a soft ambient wash rather than a working beam. Because the light is broken and warm rather than direct, it suits rooms used in the evening better than anywhere you need to see fine detail. Fit dimmable lamps and pair them with a compatible dimmer switch if you like to drop the level for dinner.

The frame is finished in French gold, a warmer and slightly softer tone than a bright brass, and the crystal is clear throughout. Dust is the thing to keep on top of: with the power off and the lamps cold, work over the glass with a clean dry cloth, then wipe the metal with a barely damp one and dry it straight away. Avoid sprays and polishes, which dull both finishes. It carries a one year warranty. Which lamps does it take?

It takes six E14 candle lamps of up to 20W each. LED candle lamps, either C35 or flame tip, are the ones we would choose, and they are bought separately.

Can I dim it?

Yes, provided you use dimmable lamps and a compatible dimmer switch. Neither the lamps nor the dimmer come with the chandelier.

How much space does it need?

It measures 610mm in diameter with a height of 580mm, so allow for the full width when centring it over a table or a stair void.

What is the crystal?

Is it suitable for a bathroom or a porch?

No. It is rated for dry indoor rooms only, so keep it to living spaces, halls and bedrooms.

How do I clean the crystal without marking it?

Switch off at the wall and let the lamps cool, then hold each piece steady and pass a clean dry cloth over it. Water spots show on clear crystal, so dry any dampness immediately.
