Description

The Bayview is a 1.04m pillar lantern built from black aluminium with a Georgian-style coach lantern head, clear bevelled glass panels, and a single E27 bulb fitting. The lantern mounts on a fluted pillar column that rises from a stepped circular base, giving it a vertical presence suited to gatepost mounting, driveway flanking, or entrance pier installation.

Designed for residential outdoor lighting where a traditional aesthetic is needed, the Bayview provides pathway illumination and architectural accent in one fitting. The IP44 rating protects against rain and splashing water, allowing the lantern to function year-round in UK weather without requiring seasonal cover. The clear bevelled glass diffuses light outwards and downwards, creating a pool of illumination on the ground beneath while allowing the bulb filament to be visible when lit, which suits decorative E27 LED filament bulbs or standard warm-white LEDs.

The black aluminium construction resists corrosion better than painted steel alternatives and maintains its finish under UV exposure and winter frost. The bevelled glass panels are set into a four-sided coach lantern frame with a domed top and finial, echoing Georgian street lighting without direct replication. The 1.04m height places the lantern head at a typical adult shoulder level, allowing light to spread horizontally across driveways and garden paths without being mounted too low or too high for effective coverage.

The Bayview takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a 6-10W warm-white LED filament bulb or a standard A60 LED for traditional styling.

Can it be used on a driveway gatepost?

Yes. The IP44 rating and aluminium construction allow the lantern to be mounted on gateposts, entrance piers, or garden wall pillars exposed to rain and weather. The stepped circular base is designed to fix onto a flat mounting surface approximately 150-200mm in diameter.

Is the glass replaceable if damaged?

The bevelled glass panels are held within the coach lantern frame by removable fixings. Replacement glass can be sourced through Elstead Lighting's service network if a panel is broken.

What colour temperature works best with this lantern?

Warm white (2700K-3000K) suits the Georgian styling and black finish. Cool white or daylight bulbs can look clinical against the traditional design and may highlight the black aluminium too starkly at night.
