Description

A shallow drum shade in dual faux silk sits below a polished chrome semi flush plate, close enough to the ceiling to keep a hallway clear while still reading as a proper shade rather than a plate of light. The outer face is midnight black, and the lining is green olive, so the light leaving it carries a warm cast. At 30cm across it stays neat overhead. Seen from a doorway the black outer keeps things calm, and the colour inside only shows when the lamp is on.

This is the fitting we suggest where a pendant would hang too low: a landing, a bedroom, a box room, a hall with a coat rail below. It takes one E27 lamp, and we would put an LED GLS globe in it, up to 20W, in a warm white to work with the olive lining. Given suitable lamps and a dimmer it will dim down for evenings. Keep it to dry rooms; it has no weather protection, so bathrooms and porches want something else.

The chrome is polished bright, and the shade is faux silk, the black outer and the olive lining each holding their own colour. Dust the fabric with a soft brush, working with the weave rather than across it, and lift marks from the chrome with a dry cloth once the power is off and the lamp has cooled. It carries a one year warranty.
