Description

A wide, shallow drum shade in ivory pearl faux silk, lined in white laminate, sits low and close against the ceiling on a polished chrome plate. Underneath, a frosted acrylic diffuser held in a polished chrome ring closes off the base, so the lamp stays hidden and the light falls softly downwards instead of glaring. At 50cm across it reads as a broad, quiet disc overhead rather than a shape that draws the eye. It takes a single E27 lamp of up to 20W, with dimming possible if you pair a suitable lamp with a suitable dimmer.

We reach for this one in rooms where a pendant would hang too low or too close to heads: hallways with an ordinary ceiling height, landings, a bedroom above the foot of the bed, or a flat where a hanging fitting would be in the way. The width gives good, even spread for a room used for sitting and talking, and the fabric keeps the tone warm. It suits classic and soft modern schemes, and works well alongside cream walls, painted woodwork and chrome switchplates.

The shade is faux silk stretched over a drum frame, and the white laminate lining reflects light down through the frosted acrylic rather than letting it soak into the fabric. Keep the fabric fresh with a soft brush or the upholstery nozzle of a vacuum on its lowest setting, and give the chrome and the diffuser an occasional wipe with a barely damp cloth, well away from the lampholder. It carries a one year warranty.
