Description

Sitting close to the ceiling with only a short drop, this is a wide drum shade in gold leaf over a white laminate ground, so the light takes on a warm cast as it comes down. A frosted acrylic diffuser with an antique brass surround closes off the underside, softening the lamp so you get an even wash rather than a bright spot. At 40cm across it reads as a generous circle while keeping close to the ceiling line.

We reach for it in hallways, landings and bedrooms where a pendant would hang too low but a plain flush fitting would look mean. It also works over a dining table in a room with limited headroom, and in a sitting room where you want the fitting to sit quietly as part of the ceiling. The lampholder takes an E27 lamp of up to 20W, and an LED GLS is what we would put in it. It can be dimmed where you pair a dimmable lamp with a compatible dimmer, though neither of those comes with it.

The metalwork is antique brass, warm and slightly aged rather than bright, and the acrylic diffuser is frosted so the lamp stays hidden from below. Keep the gold leaf shade to a dry duster or a soft brush, and lift finger marks from the diffuser with a barely damp cloth once the power is off and everything has gone cold. It carries a one year warranty. Elsewhere in the range there are universal semi flush fittings and linear pendants in matching antique brass, along with polished chrome, satin nickel and satin black, so the finish can be carried through a hallway and into the rooms off it. Lamps are not included.
