Description

A drum shade in grey faux silk sits on a satin nickel frame, held close to the ceiling so the fitting reads as part of the room rather than an object hanging in it. The shade measures 30cm across, wide enough to spread light gently without dominating the ceiling. Light passes through the faux silk and reflects off the white laminate lining, giving a soft wash downwards and a quieter glow out to the sides. It takes one E27 lamp, and an LED GLS globe up to 20W suits it well.

We would fit this where a pendant would hang too low: a hallway, a landing, a small bedroom, a study under a sloping ceiling, or a room where a door swings close to the light. Paired with a dimmable lamp and a compatible dimmer switch, it takes the level down for evenings, which makes it a sensible pick for bedrooms and snugs. The neutral grey settles happily against painted or papered walls, and the satin nickel sits quietly alongside chrome or nickel door furniture.

The shade is faux silk laminate over a firm backing, and the metalwork has a low satin sheen rather than a mirror shine. Lift dust from the fabric with a lint roller or a vacuum brush on its lowest setting, and give the metal a wipe with a barely damp cloth only when it needs one, with the power switched off first. It carries a one year warranty.
