Description

A shade of ivory pearl faux silk, 30cm across, hangs from a polished chrome suspension on adjustable flex. The fabric has a soft, slightly lustrous surface that warms the light passing through it, while the white laminate lining behind it keeps the output bright and sends it downward rather than soaking it up. The metalwork is plain and slim, so the eye goes to the shade and the light rather than the hardware holding it up.

The drop is set when the fitting goes up and can be taken out to 3.3m, which makes it useful over a dining table, in a hallway, above a stairwell or in a room with a tall ceiling. It takes an E27 lamp and will dim if you pair a dimmable lamp with a suitable dimmer. We would reach for a GLS-shaped LED here, since the round envelope sits neatly inside the shade and gives an even spread across the fabric. It suits bedrooms and living rooms where a soft, unfussy light is wanted, and it earths through a Class 1 connection.

The frame is metal under its polished chrome plating, the shade fabric-covered with the laminate lining bonded inside. Keep the chrome bright with a dry microfibre cloth, and lift dust from the fabric with a clean soft brush or the upholstery head of a vacuum on low; the laminate lining should never be wetted. It is a dry indoor fitting for a mains household circuit, not for bathrooms or covered porches. It carries a one year warranty. The wider Baymont range runs to flush and semi flush ceiling fittings and to linear pendants in antique brass, satin nickel and satin black as well as this chrome, so a whole house can be kept to one family of metalwork.
