Description

A drum shade in black faux silk, lined with white laminate, sits on a satin nickel fitting and holds close to the ceiling rather than dropping on a rod. The shade measures 30cm across, wide enough to spread light gently across a room, while the pale lining keeps the glow clean rather than muddy. The metal has a soft grey sheen that reads quieter than chrome and picks up very little in the way of fingerprints. We like it where a plain ceiling wants a bit of fabric without much bulk.

It works in bedrooms, landings and hallways where a pendant would hang too low, and over a small dining table in a flat with a lower ceiling. The lampholder takes an E27 lamp of up to 20W, and we would reach for a warm white LED globe of the standard pear shape for everyday rooms. Paired with a suitable lamp and a compatible dimmer it will dim, which is useful in a bedroom when you want the level down late in the evening. Keep it to dry rooms; a bathroom or a covered porch calls for something else.

The shade is fabric over a laminate liner, so treat it gently: a soft brush or the upholstery head of a vacuum will lift dust, and the nickel needs no more than a dry cloth. Avoid sprays and damp cloths on the fabric, as water marks faux silk. It carries a one year warranty. Elsewhere in the range we stock linear pendants in satin nickel, antique brass and polished chrome, along with small universal semi flush fixtures in satin black and antique brass for anyone who wants to choose their own shade, so a hall and a stair can be dressed to match without repeating the same fitting.
