Description

A wide, shallow drum in dual faux silk sits close to the ceiling here, taupe on the outside with a halo gold lining that warms the light as it spreads. Beneath it a frosted acrylic diffuser closes the underside, so the lamp stays hidden and the downward light arrives soft rather than sharp. Polished chrome at the centre picks up the gold and keeps it bright. The shade and the diffuser do the work; the chrome reads as trim rather than the point. At 60cm across it looks broad and calm rather than tall.

This is a fitting we reach for where a pendant would hang too low: over a dining table in a room with modest headroom, in a bedroom, on a landing, or in a hallway that people walk through with bags. It takes a single E27 lamp up to 20W, and an LED GLS is what we would fit for even light across the diffuser. The scale suits rooms that can carry a generous circle overhead without it crowding the ceiling.

The shade is faux silk over a firm drum, the diffuser frosted acrylic, and the visible metalwork polished chrome.
