Description

A wide drum of black faux silk sits close to the ceiling here, held on a polished chrome fitting, with a white laminate lining inside the shade to bounce light back down. The underside is closed by a frosted acrylic diffuser ringed in polished chrome, so the glow arrives soft and even rather than as a bright spot. At 60cm across it reads as a broad, calm disc from below, with a shallow body of around 22cm keeping the whole thing tight to the plaster.

We reach for this in rooms where a pendant would hang too low: hallways and landings, bedrooms with a lower ceiling, or a snug where you want generous light without anything dropping into head height. The scale suits a decent sized room rather than a box room, and it works well over a dining table in a flat where headroom is short. It takes a single E27 lamp and we would choose an LED GLS globe, up to 20W, warm white for a living space. Fit a compatible LED lamp and a trailing edge dimmer and it will dim.

The shade is faux silk over a laminate lining, the metalwork is polished chrome and the diffuser is frosted acrylic, all built for dry indoor rooms away from splashes and steam. For upkeep, run a soft brush lightly over the fabric now and then to lift dust, and give the acrylic and chrome a wipe with a barely damp cloth once the lamp is cold. It carries a one year warranty.
