Description

The shade here is a wide grey drum, 50cm across, faux silk over a white laminate lining, held close to the ceiling on an antique brass frame. Beneath it, a frosted acrylic diffuser ringed in antique brass closes off the base, so the light comes down as a soft wash rather than a bare glare. One E27 lamp sits inside, and an LED GLS is what we would put in it. Dimming is possible with a suitable lamp and a compatible dimmer, though neither comes with the fitting.

Because the body stays shallow, this is a good answer for rooms where a hanging shade would be in the way: hallways and landings, a bedroom with a lower ceiling, a small dining room, or the head of a staircase. The fabric drum gives the warmth of a shaded pendant while keeping the ceiling line clear, and the frosted base can be looked at from directly below without discomfort. It suits anyone furnishing in soft greys and warm metals. Keep it to dry rooms; steam and weather are not its territory.

The frame and trim carry an antique brass finish, warm and slightly aged rather than bright, and the shade is a laminated fabric that holds its round shape well.
