Description

A broad drum shade sits close to the ceiling here, wrapped in faux silk in black with a white laminate lining that throws light back down into the room. Below it, a frosted acrylic diffuser closes the underside, so the lit effect is an even wash rather than a bright spot. Polished chrome picks out the ceiling plate and the diffuser rim, a small piece of shine against the matt fabric. At 50cm across it makes a wide, calm circle overhead. The body sits shallow, so it reads more as a disc of light than a hanging shade.

We reach for this where a pendant would hang too low: hallways and landings, bedrooms, and dining rooms under an ordinary ceiling. The width does the work, so it is usually enough on its own in a mid sized room. It takes one E27 lamp, and we would choose a warm white LED GLS, up to 20W. Dimming is possible if you pair a dimmable lamp with a compatible dimmer. Neither comes with the light. The frosted underside keeps glare in check when you are looking up from a sofa or bed.

Shade construction is faux silk with a laminate backing, black outside and white within, and the diffuser is frosted acrylic. Metalwork is polished chrome throughout. It belongs in dry rooms away from steam. For care, run a soft brush over the fabric and a dry cloth over the chrome, leaving sprays and damp cloths well alone. It carries a one year warranty. The wider range gives you universal frames in antique brass, satin nickel and white if you would rather pick your own shade, plus linear pendants for a run of lamps over a table.
