Baymont E27 Semi Flush Ceiling Light 50cm Black - Antique Brass

A broad drum shade in black and white laminated faux silk sits directly beneath an antique brass frame, so the fitting hugs the ceiling rather than hanging from it. At 50cm across it has real presence overhead, wide enough to hold its own in a large room without stealing headroom. Underneath, a frosted acrylic diffuser trimmed in antique brass closes the shade off, softening the light and keeping the lamp out of direct view. It takes one screw-in E27 lamp.

We reach for this where a pendant would hang too low: hallways and landings, bedrooms, and sitting rooms with ceilings on the lower side. It works well over an open-plan corner too, where a long drop would be in the way of people or furniture. An LED GLS lamp of up to 20W is what we would fit, and the light can be dimmed if you pair a dimmable lamp with a compatible dimmer. The black outer face grounds the fitting against pale plaster, while the white inner surface and the diffuser send a warmer light down into the room.

The shade is faux silk laminated to a firm backing, black on the outside and white within, holding a clean drum profile without sagging. Metalwork is finished in antique brass, a softly aged gold tone rather than a bright one, and the diffuser rim picks up the same colour. Dust the fabric with a soft brush and wipe the acrylic with a barely damp cloth, keeping water away from the shade itself and the switch off while you work. It carries a one year warranty. One E27 screw-in lamp, and we would use an LED GLS A60 shape rated at up to 20W. Lamps are supplied separately.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you use a dimmable lamp together with a compatible dimmer. Neither the lamp nor a dimmer is supplied.

How far does it drop from the ceiling?

Overall height is 395mm, with the shade itself 200mm deep, so it sits close in compared with a pendant.

How wide is the shade?

500mm in diameter, which places it in our large size band and suits bigger rooms and wide hallways.

How should I clean the shade and diffuser?

Brush the faux silk gently with a soft dry brush, and wipe the frosted acrylic with a slightly damp cloth, then dry it. Avoid solvents and household sprays on both.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. This one is rated for dry rooms indoors, so keep it to hallways, bedrooms and living spaces.
