Description

Ours is a plain cylinder shade, 40cm across, carried below a satin nickel cup and bracket so the fitting stays close to the ceiling instead of dropping into the room. The fabric is black on the outside, with a white laminate lining that pushes light back down rather than soaking it up. The result is ambient: a soft, even spread through the room with a brighter fall directly underneath. The drum is broad enough to read as deliberate over a bed or in a hall.

We keep this one in mind for rooms where a pendant would hang too low: a hallway with limited headroom, a small bedroom, a landing, or the space above a bed in a spare room. It takes one E27 lamp, and we would fit a GLS LED globe, which sits neatly inside the cylinder without showing through the fabric. It will dim if you pair a dimmable lamp with a compatible dimmer, though neither is supplied with the light. It suits anyone who wants the softness of a fabric shade without the height of a hanging fitting, and the plain shape is the safer choice in a rented flat.
