Description

The shade here is a wide faux silk drum in grey, laminated in white on the inside so the light picks up a clean tone as it comes through. It measures 40cm across, deep enough to give the fitting some presence without crowding a table. Underneath, a frosted acrylic diffuser with antique brass detailing closes off the base, softening the downward light and keeping the lamp out of view. The metalwork is antique brass, warm rather than bright, and it takes an E27 lamp.

We reach for this where a room wants a soft, generous pool of light rather than a sharp beam: above a dining table, in the middle of a sitting room, or over a hallway console. The drop is adjustable and extends to a little over 3.3m, so it hangs happily in a stairwell or a tall room as well as at ordinary ceiling height. Wattage is capped at 20W, which an LED GLS meets comfortably, and dimming is possible with a compatible lamp and dimmer. It suits anyone who wants the warmth of brass without the fitting raising its voice.

The shade is fabric over a laminate backing, the diffuser is acrylic, and the visible metal is antique brass throughout. For cleaning, run a soft brush or the upholstery tool of a vacuum lightly over the fabric now and then, and lift dust from the diffuser with a dry lint-free cloth once the lamp has cooled; keep water away from the faux silk. It carries a one year warranty.
