Description

A wide drum of dual faux silk hangs beneath a satin nickel suspension, the outer face in a muted raw cocoa with grecian bronze on the layer behind it. At 60cm across it reads as a broad, quiet circle rather than anything fussy, and a frosted acrylic diffuser closes off the base so the lamp is hidden and the light falls evenly downward. An E27 lamp does the work, an LED GLS being the sensible pick, rated to 20W.

It is one we reach for over a dining table, where the closed base keeps glare off plates and faces, and in a wide hallway or a bedroom that has ceiling height to spare. The drop adjusts to suit the room, and at its longest it will reach down a stairwell of 3.35m, so it works as well from a high landing ceiling as it does from a standard one. Dimming is possible with a compatible lamp and dimmer, which is worth doing where the shade sits low over seating.

The metalwork carries a satin nickel finish, a brushed sheen that stays soft next to warm wall colours, and the faux silk gives the shade a slight lustre as light passes through it. Keep it looking well by brushing the fabric lightly for dust and giving the acrylic a wipe with a cloth wrung out in plain water, solvents left well alone and the power off first. It carries a one year warranty. How do I clean the shade and diffuser?

Switch off at the wall and let everything cool. Use a soft brush or a dry lint-free cloth on the faux silk, and a cloth dampened with plain water on the acrylic diffuser. Avoid sprays and solvents, which can cloud acrylic.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20 and belongs in dry rooms such as dining rooms, hallways, landings and bedrooms.
