Wide and softly shaped, this pendant pairs a taupe faux silk shade with a halo gold lining, so the light that spills upward picks up a warm tint before it reaches the ceiling. The shade measures 50cm across, which gives it presence without much bulk. Underneath, a frosted acrylic diffuser closes the base, hiding the lamp and spreading an even wash of light downward. The suspension and ceiling plate are finished in satin nickel, a quiet mid grey sheen that sits happily alongside brushed steel, pale timber and warm neutral paint.

We reach for this one where a bare lamp would be too harsh and a glass shade too cold: over a dining table, in a wide hallway, or centred above a bed. The drop is adjustable, so it can hang low over a table or sit well clear of the head height in a busy room. It runs on an E27 lamp, and we would choose a GLS LED of up to 20W; dimming is possible if the lamp and the dimmer are matched to each other. Keep it to dry rooms indoors, as neither the fabric nor the diffuser is meant for a bathroom or a porch.

The shade is a dual faux silk construction, taupe outside and gold within, on a drum profile that holds its shape. Dust it with a soft brush or the upholstery head of a vacuum, and give the acrylic diffuser an occasional wipe with a barely damp cloth once the lamp has cooled. It carries a one year warranty.
