Description

A wide faux silk drum, 50cm across, hangs from antique brass metalwork. The outer face is Raw Cocoa, a soft warm brown, while the inside is lined in Grecian Bronze so the light gathers a little warmth on its way down. A frosted acrylic diffuser closes the base within an antique brass ring, softening the view up into the shade and spreading light across the room instead of dropping it in one bright column. The drop adjusts across a generous span, so the shade can sit high in a hall or low over a table.

We reach for a shade this size where one central light is doing all the work: above a dining table, in a wide entrance hall, or centred in a bedroom. It takes a single E27 lamp and we would choose a GLS LED in a warm white, which suits the cocoa fabric better than anything cooler. Dimming is possible where both a suitable lamp and a dimmer are used, though neither comes with it. This is a fitting for dry rooms, so a sitting room or landing rather than a bathroom.

Fabric, acrylic and metal each want a slightly different touch. Lift dust from the faux silk with a soft brush or the upholstery head of a vacuum on a low setting, and give the brass and the diffuser a dry cloth when the light is off and cold; leave damp cloths and sprays out of it altogether. It carries a one year warranty. The wider Baymont range runs to universal linear pendants and semi flush fittings, offered in antique brass as well as polished chrome, satin nickel and satin black, which helps if you are matching fittings from room to room.
