Description

An E27 pendant on a polished chrome suspension, finished with a broad faux silk drum shade that measures 50cm across. The outer face is midnight black, while the inside is lined in green olive, so the light takes on a warmer cast as it falls. Beneath the shade sits a frosted acrylic diffuser ringed in polished chrome, which softens the view of the lamp from below and spreads the light more evenly across a table or a floor.

We reach for this where a room wants a broad shade rather than several small ones: above a dining table, in a hallway with height to spare, or at the bedside in place of table lamps. The drop adjusts across a wide span, so it can hang low over a run of worktop or sit high in a stairwell. It takes an LED GLS lamp up to 20W, and it will dim with a compatible lamp and dimmer, which suits a room used for both eating and sitting.

The shade is fabric over a rigid form, the metalwork bright polished chrome, and the diffuser acrylic rather than glass, which keeps the weight sensible for a shade of this width. Dust the fabric with a soft brush now and then, working around the drum rather than across it, and bring the chrome back with a dry lint free cloth. It carries a one year warranty.
