Description

A broad drum shade in grey faux silk sits at the centre of this piece, lined in white laminate so light is thrown back down through a frosted acrylic diffuser at the base. That diffuser is held in an antique brass ring, matching the ceiling cup and the suspension above it. At 50cm across and 20cm deep, the shade is a generous one, and the light it gives is soft and spread rather than aimed.

The pendant carries one E27 lamp, and we would choose a GLS LED for it, warm in tone so the grey shade keeps its depth. Dimming is possible where the lamp and the dimmer are both suited to it. The drop adjusts, so the shade can hang low over a dining table or sit higher in a hallway or stairwell. We reach for a wide shade like this where a narrow one would look mean over a long table, and it works just as well in a bedroom, centred over the bed.

The shade is faux silk over a laminate lining, with the metalwork and the diffuser trim in an antique brass that has been knocked back rather than polished bright. Use a soft brush or the upholstery tool of a vacuum for the fabric, and a barely damp cloth for the brass and the acrylic once the light has been off long enough to be cool. It carries a one year warranty.
