Description

A generous black faux silk drum, lined in white laminate, hangs beneath an antique brass suspension. The lining does the quiet work, throwing light back down rather than soaking it up, while a frosted acrylic diffuser set into the base takes the edge off the lamp for anyone sitting below. At 50cm across, the shade is wide enough to be the main light in a room. It takes an E27 lamp of up to 20W, and an LED GLS is what we would fit here.

We turn to a pendant like this where a room wants its light from the middle rather than from several points around the edges: above a round dining table, in a wide hallway, or centred over a bedroom rug. The drop adjusts across a long span, so the shade can hang low over a table top or far down through a stairwell.
