The drum shade here is dressed in faux silk, midnight black on the outside with a green olive lining that warms the light as it falls. At 40cm across it has the width to read as a proper shade rather than a token one, and the frosted acrylic diffuser at the base, ringed in polished chrome, softens the view upward from below. The suspension and ceiling plate are finished in polished chrome to match.

It suits a dining table, a hallway with a bit of height above it, or a bedroom where you want light held lower rather than flattened against the ceiling. The drop adjusts across a wide span, so the shade can hang close over a table or run down into a stairwell. We would put a warm white LED GLS lamp in the E27 holder and leave it there; paired with a dimmable lamp and a matching dimmer, the level comes down for evenings. It is a fitting we reach for when a bare glass shade would feel too hard.

The metalwork is polished chrome and the diffuser is acrylic, so the underside stays bright without showing the lamp itself. Keep the fabric looking fresh with a soft brush, or the upholstery nozzle of a vacuum used gently, and wipe the chrome and the diffuser with a barely damp cloth once the lamp has gone cold. It is wired for dry rooms on a normal household supply. It carries a one year warranty.
