Description

Black faux silk on the outside, a white laminate lining within, and antique brass metalwork above: a drum shade pendant that reads warm rather than shiny. The shade is 40cm across, wide enough to feel generous over a table without crowding a smaller room, and the pale lining reflects rather than soaks up what the lamp gives it. It takes an E27 lamp of up to 20W, with an LED GLS the sensible pick, and the drop adjusts up to 3.3m, so it can hang well clear in a stairwell or sit low over a worktop.

We reach for this one where a glass or metal shade would feel too hard: dining rooms, a kitchen island, or a bedroom that already has black frames and ironmongery to answer. In a hallway it gives a soft column of light without glaring at anyone walking past. It is happy in dry rooms anywhere in the house, and if you want the level to come down after a meal, a compatible LED lamp paired with a dimmer will manage it; the dimmer itself is bought separately.

The antique brass carries the softer, slightly aged tone of older fittings rather than a bright gold, and it sits well against the black fabric.
