Description

This one is a broad, shallow drum of dual faux silk in midnight black, lined in green olive, with a frosted acrylic diffuser closing the underside and polished chrome at the trim. At 50cm across it reads as a wide low disc held close to the ceiling rather than a shade on a drop, and it throws light both through the fabric and down through the diffuser, which keeps the glare off the lamps behind it. The olive lining warms what comes through the sides.

Flush fittings earn their keep where headroom is short: hallways and landings, bedrooms under a sloped or low ceiling, a small dining room where a pendant would sit in the way. Three E27 sockets give plenty of output for a main light, and we would put LED GLS lamps in it, up to 20W each. It will dim if you pair the right lamps with a suitable dimmer, though neither lamps nor a dimmer come with it.

The drum is dual faux silk over a chrome frame, with the acrylic diffuser at the base. Dust the silk with a soft brush and give the chrome a dry wipe; if the diffuser needs more, switch off at the wall, let the lamps go cold, then work with a barely damp cloth. It is meant for ordinary dry rooms indoors, so we would keep it out of shower rooms and covered porches. It carries a one year warranty. Elsewhere in the Baymont range there are universal flush frames and linear pendants you can dress with a shade of your own, in white, satin nickel, antique brass and satin black alongside this polished chrome. Lamps are not included.
