Description

A wide drum of dual faux silk sits close against the ceiling here, nude beige on the outside with a paler moonlight tone within that softens the light as it passes through. Beneath the fabric a frosted acrylic diffuser closes the underside, so the five E27 lamps read as one broad wash rather than a row of bright spots. The frame is polished chrome, bright at the edge of the shade without pulling attention from the fabric. At 60cm across it is a generous width, held on a short drop.

We reach for this where a room wants the light of a large pendant but has no height to spare: a hallway with a low ceiling, a landing, a dining room in a flat, or a wide bedroom where a hanging shade would sit awkwardly above the bed. Five lamps give it the output to work as the main light in a busy room, and it will dim if you pair suitable lamps with a dimmer, which helps in a sitting room that shifts from daytime to evening. The neutral shade sits happily with painted walls, paper or wood.

Fabric, acrylic and polished metal do the work: faux silk above, a frosted acrylic panel below, chrome on the visible metalwork. Keep the silk looking fresh with a soft brush or the upholstery tool on a vacuum, and give the chrome an occasional wipe with a dry cloth to hold its shine. It carries a one year warranty. If you would rather choose a shade yourself, we also stock the plain Baymont drop flush frames in polished chrome, white, antique brass and satin nickel, along with linear pendant versions for longer tables.
