Description

A wide drum shade in grey faux silk sits close to the ceiling, with a frosted acrylic diffuser closing the underside so light spreads across the room rather than pooling directly below. The shade measures 50cm across and 20cm deep, and its lining is a grey and white laminate that keeps the glow clean and bright. Behind it sit five E27 lampholders, which is a good deal of output for a single ceiling point. Given suitable lamps and a dimmer, it will dim.

It is a fitting we reach for where a pendant would hang too low and a small flush fitting would not do enough: a hallway with a modest ceiling, a wide landing, a bedroom where the fitting sits over the bed, or a dining room you want to keep clear overhead. It works well in a large sitting room too. We would fit warm white LED GLS lamps for a settled, even light; cooler lamps read sharper if the room is a kitchen diner. Grey reads as a quiet neutral, so it sits happily against white or off white walls.

The shade is faux silk with a laminate lining, and the diffuser panel is frosted acrylic, so the fitting stays light for its size. Care is quick: turn the power off, brush the fabric down with a soft dusting brush, and wipe the acrylic with a barely damp cloth, drying it before you switch back on. Keep it to dry indoor rooms; a bathroom or a porch is not the place for it. It carries a one year warranty. We also stock the same universal fixture in smaller diameters and in plate finishes including polished chrome, antique brass and satin nickel, along with linear pendant versions for a row of shades.
