Description

Five E27 lampholders sit inside a wide faux silk drum shade in grey, lined with a white laminate, carried on a polished chrome frame that drops just clear of the ceiling line. A frosted acrylic diffuser with a polished chrome trim closes off the base, so the light falling straight down is softened rather than bare. At 40cm across it reads as a broad, shallow disc rather than a hanging shade, and the chrome picks up just enough light to keep the grey fabric from looking flat against a white ceiling.

We reach for this one in hallways, on landings and in bedrooms, anywhere a pendant would drop into head height and be knocked about. It also does good work over a dining table in a room with a lower ceiling, where the spread of lampholders gives a broad, even wash instead of a single hot spot. It is dimmable with suitable lamps and a compatible dimmer, which makes it easier to live with in a sitting room or a bedroom where you want the level down in the evening. Our own choice here would be warm white LED GLS lamps.

The shade is faux silk over a laminate lining, the frame and base trim are polished chrome, and the diffuser is frosted acrylic. Switch off at the wall before you touch it, then a soft brush over the fabric and a dry cloth on the chrome is all it asks; avoid sprays, which mark both the laminate and the acrylic. Steam and splashes are not for this fitting, so keep it to dry rooms rather than a shower room. It carries a one year warranty. The wider Baymont range runs to linear pendants and single light semi flush fittings, plus bare frames in antique brass and satin nickel if you would rather pair your own shade.
