A satin nickel frame gathers five E27 lampholders under one broad drum shade in faux silk, black on the outside with a white laminate lining. That pale lining pushes light back down onto whatever sits beneath, while the dark outer face keeps the fitting reading as a calm shape against a light ceiling. The shade measures 45cm across, wide enough to anchor a table, and the drop is adjustable over a long range so the hanging height can be set to the room rather than the other way round.

We would hang this over a dining table, in a stairwell with height to spare, or in a sitting room where a lone lamp leaves the corners dull. Sharing a shade between several holders spreads the light more evenly than a smaller pendant can, and the black exterior stops the glow feeling washed out. It takes screw fit lamps, with GLS shapes sitting best inside the drum, and it will dim if you pair compatible lamps with a suitable dimmer. Dry indoor rooms are its place: a kitchen island, a wide hallway, a long farmhouse table.

The metalwork wears a satin nickel finish with a low sheen that shrugs off fingerprints, and the shade is faux silk over a laminate liner. Keep the fabric fresh with a soft brush or the upholstery head of a vacuum used gently, and give the frame nothing harsher than a dry cloth, no polish or solvent. Each holder takes up to 20W, so LED is the sensible choice here. It carries a one year warranty. How far down does it hang?

The drop adjusts from 375mm at its shortest to 3300mm at full extension, so it can sit close under a standard ceiling or fall a long way into a stairwell.

What lamps should I use?

Five E27 screw fit lamps, each up to 20W. LED GLS lamps are the ones we would fit, as they stay cool and suit the enclosed drum.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you use dimmable lamps and a compatible dimmer. Neither the lamps nor a dimmer come with the fitting.

How big is the shade?

It is 450mm in diameter with a 150mm depth, and the body of the fitting measures 315mm in height.

What colour is the shade inside?

The outer face is black and the inner face is a white laminate, which reflects light downward and keeps the output bright.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20 and the fabric shade dislikes steam, so keep it to dry rooms such as dining rooms, hallways and bedrooms.
