Description

A wide, shallow drum in faux silk sits tight to the ceiling, finished black on the outside with a white laminate lining that pushes light back into the room. Underneath, a frosted acrylic diffuser closes the base, so the five E27 lampholders behind it read as a soft wash rather than a row of bright points. At 60cm across it is a generous circle, and the shallow depth keeps it calm and low-key overhead.

We reach for this where a pendant would hang too low: a dining room under a modest ceiling, a wide landing, a bedroom where headroom matters more than drama. The black outer reads as a firm dark disc against a pale ceiling, which suits rooms with dark joinery or black metalwork already in play. Spread across a broad diffuser, the lampholders give a soft, general light without hotspots, and it will dim if you pair suitable lamps with a compatible dimmer. We would fit LED GLS lamps of the standard household shape, up to 20W apiece, which is ample for a main living space.

The shade is fabric over a laminate backing, with the acrylic panel doing the work below, and neither asks much of you: a dust with a dry cloth, and a barely damp wipe on the acrylic if kitchen air has left it looking dull. Switch off at the wall and let the lamps lose their heat before you handle anything. It carries a one year warranty.
