That diffuser does the work, spreading the output of three E27 lamps into an even wash rather than letting them show as bright spots through the fabric. At 60cm across the shade is a generous circle, and the fitting stays shallow enough that the ceiling keeps its height. Warm white GLS lamps suit it best, hidden entirely behind the diffuser.

It suits a room with space to fill: a sitting room that looks bare under a small central fitting, a wide landing, a big bedroom, or a dining table where a hanging shade would sit in the eyeline. There is enough output here for a main light, and it will dim if you pair suitable LED lamps with a compatible dimmer. We reach for it in newer houses where ceilings sit low and a pendant would crowd the room. Keep it to dry rooms indoors rather than a shower zone or a covered porch.

The shade is fabric over a laminate lining, so treat it gently: a soft brush or the upholstery head of a vacuum for dust, and a barely damp cloth for the acrylic when it starts to look dull, with nothing solvent-based going near the silk finish. It carries a one year warranty. It is a plain shape, and that is the point, since it settles into a room instead of competing with it. Can I dim it?

Yes, provided you use dimmable lamps and a compatible dimmer. Neither the lamps nor a dimmer come with the fitting.
