Baymont 3 Light Flush Ceiling Light 50cm Black - Polished Chrome

A broad drum shade sits tight to the ceiling here, wrapped in black faux silk with a white laminate lining that bounces the light back down. Below it, a frosted acrylic diffuser ringed in polished chrome closes off the base, so the lamps read as an even glow rather than separate hot spots. At 50cm across it is a generous circle, and the shallow body keeps everything close overhead. The chrome trim catches enough light to lift the black shade without competing with it.

We would fit it in a hall, a landing or a bedroom where headroom is short and a pendant would only be in the way. It suits a room that needs a single central light doing all the work, and the black outer holds its own against pale walls without looking heavy overhead. It takes three screw-fit lamps of up to 20W each; LED GLS globes are what we would put in, and with suitable lamps and a compatible dimmer it will dim. For a nursery or a guest room the frosted diffuser keeps the glare down when you look up.

The frame and the diffuser rim are finished in polished chrome, and the shade is a laminated faux silk, black outside and white within. Dust it with a soft brush and give the chrome a dry wipe; keep water away, and switch off at the wall first so nothing is hot to the touch. It carries a one year warranty. Which lamps does it take?

Three E27 screw-fit lamps, each up to 20W. We would use LED GLS A60 globes. Lamps are not supplied.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you use dimmable lamps with a compatible dimmer. No dimmer is supplied with the fitting.

How large is it?

The shade measures 500mm in diameter and the fitting stands 220mm from the ceiling, with a body height of 200mm. It weighs 1.8kg.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20, so keep it to dry rooms such as bedrooms, halls, landings and living rooms.

How should I clean the shade?

Brush or lightly vacuum the faux silk to lift dust, and wipe the chrome and diffuser with a dry cloth. Avoid sprays, solvents and damp cloths on the fabric.
