Three lampholders drop from a single polished chrome ceiling plate and gather beneath one broad drum shade of black faux silk, lined in white so the light comes back warm rather than grey. The shade is 45cm across, wide enough to read as a proper centrepiece over furniture without crowding the room around it, and the bright chrome at the top stops the whole thing looking bottom-heavy. The suspension adjusts through a long span, so it can hang low over a table or sit well clear of head height in a taller room.

We reach for this where a room wants a single light source with some presence: a dining table, a kitchen island, or a square hallway that a small pendant would leave dull in the corners. Sharing the work between three lampholders means none of them has to run hard, and the light through the faux silk stays soft and even. It takes E27 lamps, and we would fit LED GLS globes for everyday use. It will also dim with compatible lamps and a matching dimmer, which is worth having over a table where the light stays on all evening.

The frame is metal under a polished chrome finish, kept bright rather than brushed, and the shade is faux silk over a laminate lining, black outside and white within. Wipe fingerprints from the chrome with a dry cloth, and lift dust from the fabric with a soft brush rather than anything damp. It carries a one year warranty. What size is the shade?

The drum shade is 450mm in diameter and 150mm deep, which suits it to a dining table, an island or a generous hallway.

How low will it hang?

The drop can be set from 375mm at its shortest to 3295mm at its longest, so it works over a table or in a stairwell.

Which lamps should I use?

It holds three E27 lamps, each up to 20W. LED GLS (A60) globes are the sensible choice and are not supplied with the fitting.

Can the light be dimmed?

Yes, provided you use dimmable lamps with a compatible dimmer. Neither the lamps nor the dimmer come with it.

How should I clean the faux silk?

Use a soft dry brush or a lint-free cloth to lift dust. Keep water and sprays away from the fabric, and only clean once the lamps are off and cool.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20, so keep it to dry rooms such as dining rooms, kitchens, hallways and bedrooms.
