Description

A small switched wall light with a satin nickel arm and backplate, topped with a faux silk shade of just 12cm across. The shade is ivory pearl on the outside with a white laminate lining, and a rocker switch sits on the fitting itself. It takes a single E14 candle lamp.

We keep this one for the narrow spots: beside a bed where a table lamp would eat the whole surface, in a hallway, or in a pair either side of a dressing mirror. The switch on the body means you can work it by hand without hunting for a wall plate, which is why it suits bedrooms and guest rooms so well. It will dim if you use dimmable lamps with a compatible dimmer. Wired for ordinary household mains, it is meant for rooms that stay dry, so keep it clear of bathrooms and porches.

The shade is fabric stretched over a laminate liner, which gives it a crisp edge and keeps its shape; the metal beneath wears a satin nickel finish, a soft grey sheen that stays quieter than chrome against pale walls. Keep the fabric fresh with a gentle going over from a soft brush or the upholstery head of a vacuum, and wipe the nickel with a barely damp cloth once the lamp has cooled, drying it straight away. It carries a one year warranty. Ivory and satin nickel is an easy pairing, and it sits well with warm woods, painted panelling and brass hardware elsewhere in the room, so it need not be matched piece for piece. Lamps are not supplied, and we would put a warm white LED candle in it.
