Description

A slim wall light with a mirror-bright polished chrome body and a small drum shade in faux silk, nude beige on the outside with a paler moonlight lining inside. The shade sits at 12cm across, so the fitting keeps close to the wall and reads as quiet trim rather than the first thing you see in a room. A rocker switch on the body lets you turn it on and off where you are standing, and it takes an E14 candle lamp of up to 20W.

We reach for this one beside a bed, where the switch at hand matters more than reach, and in hallways, small landings and alcoves that need a soft pool of light rather than a wash. The faux silk diffuses well, giving a gentle, low-glare light that suits reading in bed or last thing at night. It is happiest in dry rooms indoors, so a bedroom, study or sitting room rather than a bathroom or a porch. Because the light is dimmable when paired with dimmable lamps, you can take the level right down for evenings; a dimmer is needed separately.

Chrome and fabric is a straightforward pairing and it keeps this fitting easy to live with. The plated finish shows fingerprints around the switch more than anywhere else, so wipe it with a dry microfibre cloth now and then and leave polishes and sprays alone. The shade wants only a light brush or a low-suction nozzle to lift dust from the silk-effect weave, worked around the drum rather than pressed into it. It carries a one year warranty.
