Banyan E14 Wall Light Ivory Pearl - Polished Chrome

A small switched wall light with a polished chrome body and a faux silk shade in ivory pearl, lined in white laminate so the light it throws stays warm. The shade measures 12cm across, which keeps the fitting compact and tight to the wall. A rocker switch sits on the fitting itself, so the light is controlled where you stand rather than from the doorway. It takes an E14 candle lamp, and we would fit an LED candle here.

Small wall lights like this earn their place beside a bed, in a narrow hallway or either side of a dressing mirror, where a broader shade would crowd the space. Having the switch on the fitting makes it easy beside a bed, since each light can be worked on its own. It also does good service over a reading chair in a smaller room. With dimmable lamps and a suitable dimmer it will drop to a low evening level, though the dimmer itself is a separate buy. It gives a soft pool of light rather than lighting a whole room, so we tend to suggest a pair, or a run along a landing.

The body is metal in polished chrome plating, and the shade is faux silk over a white laminate lining. Dust the shade with a soft brush and give the chrome an occasional wipe with a dry cloth; sprays and cream cleaners dull plated work, so leave those in the cupboard. Hallways, bedrooms and sitting rooms are its territory, indoors and dry, not bathrooms or porches. Allow up to 20W for the lamp, and it carries a one year warranty. Chrome and ivory sit quietly against most wall colours, warm whites included, which is why we keep reaching for it in bedrooms. Lamps are not included.

What lamp does it take?

One E14 candle lamp, up to 20W. An LED candle in the C35 shape is the sensible choice and is what we would put in it.

How far does it stand off the wall?

The projection is 180mm, with a width of 120mm and an overall height of 355mm, so it stays out of the way in a tight hallway.

Is there a switch on the light itself?

Yes, a rocker switch on the fitting, so each light can be turned on and off at the light rather than only from a wall switch.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you use dimmable lamps and a compatible dimmer. Neither the lamp nor the dimmer comes with it.

What is the shade made from?

Faux silk in ivory pearl over a white laminate lining. Brush it gently with a soft brush; avoid soaking it or scrubbing the fabric.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is made for dry indoor rooms such as bedrooms, hallways and sitting rooms, away from splashes and steam.
