Description

Small wall lights earn their place where a larger fitting would crowd the wall, and this is one of those. A slim satin nickel arm carries a shade of grey faux silk, 12cm across, lined in white so the light warms as it passes through. A rocker switch on the body means it can be turned on and off where you stand, rather than from across the room. The proportions are modest, so it reads quietly against painted walls and paper alike. It lights the corner it stands in rather than a whole room.

We reach for this one beside a bed, where it flanks a headboard neatly and leaves the table below clear for books and a glass of water. It works just as well up a stair, along a landing, or beside a mirror in a dressing area. It takes a single E14 candle lamp of up to 20W, and we would choose a warm white LED candle here for everyday use. Dimming is possible if you fit a dimmable lamp and pair it with a suitable dimmer, neither of which comes with the light.

The metalwork is finished in satin nickel, a soft grey sheen that sits well with brushed steel and chrome without competing with either. Keep it looking right by running a dry duster over the shade now and then and giving the arm an occasional wipe with a barely damp cloth, with the power off and the lamp cold. Avoid sprays and polishes, which mark faux silk. It is a dry indoor fitting, at home in rooms away from splashes and steam. It carries a one year warranty. Lamps are not included.
