Description

A small wall light for close work and soft background light, finished in polished chrome with a faux silk shade in grey measuring 12cm across. The rocker switch on the fitting means each light can be turned on and off where it sits, without reaching for the room switch. The lamp holder takes an E14 candle, and we would fit an LED candle lamp here, which is what the fitting is built around. It is one we reach for where a table lamp would be in the way and a pendant would sit too low.

It earns its place beside a bed, where the switch saves getting up, and equally in a hallway, on a landing or either side of a mirror in a dressing area. Guest bedrooms benefit too, since a visitor can find the switch on the light itself rather than hunting along an unfamiliar wall. The scale is modest, so it suits rooms where a larger fitting would crowd the wall. Dimming is possible if you choose dimmable lamps; a dimmer is not supplied. Keep it to dry rooms indoors, away from bathroom splashes and unheated outbuildings.

The metalwork is polished chrome, bright enough to pick up light from the room, with the shade in grey over a white laminate lining. Choose a clear candle lamp if you like a little sparkle through the chrome, or a frosted one for a quieter glow. Care is a dry lint-free cloth on the chrome to lift fingerprints, and a soft brush over the fabric now and again; skip sprays and polishes, which mark both. It carries a one year warranty. We like a pair of these flanking a bed, with a taller floor lamp nearby for reading, and lamps are not included.
